Catalogue of the Italian
Geological Formations
Italian Agency for Enviromental Protection and Technical Surveys (APAT) and the
National Research Council (IGG-CNR) have initiated the realization of a
new and update Catalogue of the Italian Geological Formations.
The aim of this new Catalogue is to provide the Project CARG with a means of
reference and immediate consultation regarding the characteristics of recognised
units, together with an evaluation of their validity.
Professor Maria Bianca Cita is the scientific coordinator of the Project.
An on-line databank has been created to provide maximum visibility to the
initiative and to maximise the use of cards compiled by contract
workers, CARG operator and by "volunteers". This Project makes it possible
to consult and interrogate, online, the Catalogue of Italian Geological
Formations. The databank not only contains published cards but also archived
materials obtained from recent and not so recent literature and also from CARG
sheet wich are being prepared. Hence, it is possible to visualize text from
compiled as well as published cards complete with diagrams..
Cards relating to formation are visible in PDF format. The databank can be
consulted by means of the following search keys:
- Formation name
- Formation initials (abbreviation)
- Region
- Age
- Card status
- Formation status
- Date when card was inserted in databank
